The 2014 RACV Great Australian Rally

Around 8am on Sunday, eight Morgans joined the throng of classic vehicles in the grounds of the Victorian College for the Deaf in St Kilda Road. This was one of three start points for the RACV’s Great Australian Rally to the Mornington Race Course.

The weather gods had been kind providing a mild day and after a breakfast comprising tea and coffee, sausages in bread and of all things brownies, we were flagged off and on our way as part of a Rally involving the largest gathering of classic cars in Victoria. It was great heading out of town surrounded by all these amazing vehicles

Due to a slight misunderstanding, our convoy of 8 Morgans became two convoys of 4 Morgans each just out of Hastings and the rear convoy, pressing on as quickly as it could to catch up with the front convoy, managed somehow to pass them and arrive at the Mornington Race Course about 5 minutes before they did. We then managed to totally confuse the organisers by insisting to be parked with the other Morgans which, unbeknown to us, had not yet arrived.

Still they very kindly gave us a nice grassed spot to park which was a great improvement on the dustbowl we were located in in 2013 and eventually we were all reunited and headed out to get lunch, check out the amazing array of cars and listen to the rather nice big band that they had playing.  We found a further three Morgans parked around the ground giving a total Morgan attendance of 11 vehicles.

It was a really great day out and one well worth putting on your calendar for next year.
