Just got back from a fabulous ten day run around Tasmania with 13 Morgans. The late night departure from the new Spirit of Tasmania Geelong Terminal was not a great deal of fun. The terminal is not that easy to find, is located in a depressing area, we did not sail till around 11:30 pm and some over zealous security guards decided that since Morgans don’t have boots they had to look under the bonnets for contraband fruit. Still it was a great feeling to finally get our Morgans safely on the ship and get underway.
Arriving in Tassie we met up with our Tassie member Mac and headed to Launceston where we were staying at the Silos. This amazing hotel was built inside a cluster of massive concrete grain silos. The rooms were fantastic, the views amazing, we had under cover secure parking for our Mogs and you could have great walks in the parklands. and into town.
The next day we worked our way through the beautiful Tasmanian countryside to St Helens where we overnighted, then on to two days in the Freycinet National Park where we took a cruise into the amazing Wineglass Bay.
Then on to Hobart for our three day stay at the Grand Chancellor Hotel where our group checked out MONA, the Huon Valley
and of course the Salamanca Markets .
Finally we headed back for another night in Launceston, then on to Devonport to catch the Spirit. We were sitting in a hotel in Devonport having dinner and it was sad to see the Spirit sailing up the river to dock and take us home.
After some of our party had another run-in with security guards insisting on bonnet lifting, we boarded the Spirt for home. It had been a truly amazing adventure and our thanks go to our President Bill who worked so hard setting it up. Thanks also go to Mac for his local knowledge so freely given which led us to some amazing places and sights.
