THE MORGAN EVENT OF THE YEAR

The record for the most Mogans in the one place in Victoria

The weather was superb as Victorian Morgans flocked to “The Morgan Event of The Year” – our November BBQ and AGM. In a VICMOG tradition dating back over a decade, this November meeting has always been held in Warwick and Paulette’s magnificent country home at Coldstream.

Another tradition is that every year, there is considerable interest to see if we have broken the record for the most Morgans ever assembled in the one spot in Victoria. And on this day around midday as the Morgans roll into Coldstream, you can see people carefully counting and comparing totals.

Now there was currently some dispute as to what the record actually was before this year’s meeting so to be on the safe side I will be conservative and say it was around 28ish. There are some that say 29 and I have even heard 31 but this upper figure tended to be generally dismissed as the imaginings of someone in the grip of a chemical mind altering substance.

Anyway this debate was soon made totally irrelevant as this year the Morgans kept coming and coming and it very quickly became clear that not only were we going to beat the existing record, we were going to comprehensively smash it. After all had arrived and several counts had been carried out, we had a new Victorian record at 41 Morgans. We also set a new record for Flat Rads with four of them making it

The abundance of Morgans brought with it another problem. Where to put them all? Despite the efforts of our parking marshals shoehorning them in with minimal clearance, our traditional parking area on the Middle Lawn was eventually filled to overflowing and beyond the end of the lawn, Morgans were not so much parked as abandoned wherever their owners could find a spot to leave them.

Up on the top of the hill, we relaxed under the shade of the trees and enjoyed our lunch and catching up with friends old and new. Our AGM passed as quickly as we could manage and as Corporate Affairs would allow, and all too soon it was time to hit the road for home.

It was a truly memorable day and a very big thank you to Warwick and Paulette for sharing their beautiful home with us yet again and for all the hard work they put in looking after us. It is really appreciated.
