THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS RUN

The last event of the year in our 2014 VICMOG Calendar was the Christmas Lights Run. Unfortunately, the weather gods had not smiled upon us and your Editor and his better half set out in our Morgan with leaden skies overhead and winds gusting up to 50 KPH pelting our Morgan’s occupants with stinging particles of dust and debris. It was not nice Morganing weather at all.

This year our plan was to do something new and the faithful assembled at Kevin and Helen’s amazing new home in Ivanhoe for a BBQ after which we planned to walk down the Boulevard to admire the famous Christmas lights there. After arriving and scraping over the hump at the front of Kevin and Helen’s driveway, we positioned ourselves in the garage as detailed in Helen’s three page arrival Instructions email.

Actually we did get it wrong and parked in the spots designated for the two Morgans that were supposed to arrive after us but It turned out however that apart from Grahame and Bunny and Ross and Jane and us, everyone else had squibbed it (or as they would have you believe showed remarkable common sense) and had come in tin boxes, so our failure to property implement the parking plan did not create any problems.

Anyway we had a great time catching up as most had not seen each other for at least 3 days. Kevin gave us a tour of their amazing home and recounted some of it history and the changes that it had gone through in its life. Then we got on to the serious business of incinerating some meat. The group split into the comfort lovers inside and the more hardy souls out on the deck.

After completing our main course we headed out and walked along the Boulevard among the crowds of pedestrians and the creeping line of cars to admire the incredible array of illuminated houses and then somehow we all made it back to Kevin and Helen’s for dessert.

This was a most enjoyable evening in a very special location and it was a very fitting end to a fantastic year of Morgan activities. On behalf of the attendees we would like to record our special thanks to Kevin and Helen for sharing their magnificent home with us, for all the trouble they went to in arranging this great event and for their marvellous hospitality.
