1970  Morgan Plus 8 Mossbox

Price: S85,000

The car was delivered new to the Morgan dealer John Britten Garages in the UK in RHD configuration which it has always retained. Between 1970 and 1976, I have no information, but in 1976 it was purchased by Gerald Kash, a New York based VP of an international shipping firm whilst in London and flown via Jumbo to NY, where it was garaged and driven when weather permitted.. He died in 2007 and his widow kept the car garaged for another 8 years and selling it in 2015 to an amateur collector in South Florida. He brought the car back to life and I purchased it in 2017.  The car was shipped to Melbourne from Florida. All the import documentation is in my name as the car has not been formally registered in Australia as yet.

The car came with a few factory extras : Oil Cooler / Driver and Passenger Cigar Lighters / Larger correct Smiths Tachometer / Battery Condition Meter / Air Horn. I have seen this specific rollbar on a couple of other Morgans but do not know if this is as per factory.

The main works I have undertaken is replaced the floorpans which were steel.

The following works were undertaken over the last few years :

  • New brake lines
  • New rear shoes + brake pads
  • New clutch and master cylinder
  • New clutch (engine out) – I was caught up in the asbestos debacle.
  • Radiator disassembled and cleaned
  • New Optima Gel Battery
  • Petronix electronic ignition

The oil pressure is excellent (60psi). The car since 2007 has done less than 1000Kms.

  • The car was stripped back to primer and repainted in the original dark red.
  • The tonneau was painted biscuit and a brand new hood was made.
  • The interior was completely redone in biscuit leather with NZ matching dark red wool carpet (undertaken by Spencer Way)
  • The window was replaced with new glass
  • The car has 5 brand new vredestein 185 tyres and the wheels were sandblasted and painted grey.

The car is a very original +8 Mossbox and is unusual in that it has not been modified for racing although would be a worthy candidate if the buyer so wished – I am not familiar with historic racing requirements but understand the Mossbox +8s are very desirable because of their rarity and their qualification for specific group classifications.

My preference is to sell the car outright however if there is a 4cylinder car that falls within the Club permit requirements, I may consider this too as a p/x.
