2017 VICMOG CHRISTMAS IN JULY

From the other end of the carpark

We are just back from the 2017 Christmas in July. Our theme this year was “ A Touch of Gold” and the weekend was brilliantly organized by David and Carol.

We met up on Saturday morning at the BP Servo just past the Calder race way. After our initial briefing and collecting our route notes we set off to our mystery destination. Travelling over some beautiful Morgan roads and passing through very interesting country, we eventually wound up at Bourkies Bakehouse Woodend for a warming coffee

You can tell from the photos, it wasn’t exactly a warm day. Still slightly thawed out from the inside by the coffee we set off again and our route took us below the dam wall of the Upper Coliban Reservoir and pass the Kyneton Railway station which contained a number of impressive bluestone buildings and looked very much unchanged from the 1890s.

We eventually arrived at our lunch destination at the Kangaroo Hotel in the amazingly preserved 19th Century village of Maldon.

After a hearty country lunch and an explore of the Village we climbed back in our Morgans and checked out the historic hill climb track that runs up Mt Tarrengower. Once at the top we climbed up the tower and admired the views of the surrounding country.

Passing back through Maldon to pick up some stragglers, we wound our way through the beautiful countryside till we arrived at the Schaller Hotel at Bendigo. This is a newish, arty hotel and was warm, comfortable and had great staff.

Around 6pm we met in the Pantry for drinks and caught taxis to our dinner destination at the Federation Room of the Historic Shamrock Hotel. We had great meal and a fun evening.

Congratulations to our Prize winners: Alison for the best Ladies outfit, Kevin for the Best Mens outfit, Thorold and Elaine for the best presented Morgan and to Mac and Marj who were inaugural winners of the Golden Boomerang Award which as the name suggests has to be returned next year.

Next day saw us having at leisurely late breakfast before hitting the road back to Melbourne. While still a bit on the cool side, it was a lovely winters day with lots of blue skies and a warming sun and we had a great drive home.

Big thanks are due to David and Carol for their hard work, amazing organization and a fabulous weekend
